Jean-Philippe Richard
Jean-Philippe Richard is a French sculptor, born in 1947, Paris. He first started his artistic journey with painting and creating natural mosaics, before venturing into sculpture in the early 1990s. A self-taught sculptor, Jean-Philippe Richard prefers to work without a model, allowing him to overcome the constraints of reality. The artist has chosen “women” as his favourite subject to sculpt. Through his sculptures, Jean- Philippe Richard has been exploring the non-realistic female form. A theme equally dear to the Maison Daum, a collaboration between the artist and the Manufacturer was evident. 2002 would mark the start of a poetic chapter between the two, with the launch of Repos.
Today, the artist continues to work in his studio in Mirabel-aux- Baronnies, France. His works can be found in the famous Exotic Garden of Eze, France, and in exhibitions in Paris, Barcelona, New York, China, to name a few.
The Women of Jean-Philippe Richard exalt grace and elegance. The slender and sensual shapes are the hallmarks of his works. The artist describes “her” as his passion: the eternal feminine, tender, passionate woman; fascinating yet mysterious; her body in movement emerging from the material. Fine-featured faces with eyes shut or half-closed, his women display a tender assurance and a moving serenity.
